Accessibility Tools for the Web

Here are some useful tips for browsing our website.

  • Compatibility mode for your browser (IE 8 and up)

Some websites may not work as expected in Windows Internet Explorer 8 or 9. For example, you may experience any of the following problems:

  • Menus, images, or text in the wrong positions
  • Some website features do no work
  • You receive script error messages
  • Internet Explorer stops working

To enable Compatibility View when the website is not displayed or working correctly in Internet Explorer 8 or 9, open the website and click the Compatibility View button that is directly to the right of the address bar, and next to the Refresh button, or click the Tools menu, and select the option Compatibility View.

Note:
If the Compatibility View button does not appear on the right side of the address bar, and you cannot find it under the Tools menu, you will not be able to use this method. You could be experiencing a different problem, or the setting may be restricted.

  • Zoom in and out on your screen (IE 7 and up)
  • View Menu, select Zoom and the percentage you want

  • The keyboard shortcuts to Zoom settings are:

    • Ctrl + (zoom in)
    • Ctrl - (zoom out)
    • Ctrl 0 (set to 100%)

  • If you have a wheel mouse, hold down the Ctrl key, then spin up to zoom in or spin down to zoom out.

  • Zoom selection can also be controlled by the the Zoom menu on the status bar.

  • Change font size (IE 6 and up)
  • View Menu, select Text Size and the size you want (smallest to largest)

  • For Internet Explorer 7 and up, you can also click the Page button, then click Text Size, and then select the size you want.

  • Mouse Pointer Visibility (Windows XP)

If you have trouble viewing the mouse pointer, there are three ways to help:

  1. Find the pointer
  2. Make pointer larger
  3. Add trails to your pointer

To choose one of these options:

  • Click the Start button, then click Control Panel
  • Open the Mouse Properties by double-clicking the Mouse icon
  • Click the Pointer Options tab, and choose the option you need.

  • Magnify your Screen (Windows XP)

You can view larger objects on your computer screen through magnification:

  • Click the Start button, click Programs and then click All Programs
  • Click Accessories, then Accessibility and then click Magnifier. This opens the Magnifier box and turns it on.
  • In the Settings box, click the Magnification Level or use the up/down arrow keys to increase/decrease the magnification level.

  • Language Translation Service (Google)

Throughout the Housing Connections website, you will find the Google translation tool at the bottom of each page. Please read the disclaimer before using the translator.
